LEARN MORE

Tanya Nakova is a distinctive Bulgarian-Canadian visual Artist based in Ottawa, ON. She was drawn to photography in the early 2000, inspired by the vast beauty of the Pacific Northwest nature and sunsets. Later on, her artistic wanderings led her to experiment and adopt different techniques of combining and manipulating digital images in order to create multilayered, emotionally charged "visual stories." She frequently travels to Chiprovtsi Region, Bulgaria, retreats in the village of her forefathers, where she draws inspiration and recharges "from the root."

"IN COLD STONE I'M . AGE ―

LESS FERVENT FLESH AND BONE"©

― FROM 'AGE OVER DREAM'

I'M.AGE

My photographs step beyond the familiar visual. Objects and scenes are layered and juxtaposed with their remnants, conflicting vestiges of once believed to be a solid and mindfully structured world. It is within these radiant [and radical] apertures, these visceral cross-dimensional transtemporal places where I search for the archetypal; attempt to span the insurmountable, capture a fleeting moment, [re]collect a fading memory, delineate the reverie of form. Strung into such eclectic imaginary dream-like sequence, my images take the viewer on a mystical journey, towards something thought-provoking, exhilarating, feral and true.

"Photographer Tatiana (Tanya) Nakova, as an artist, knows how to present the spirit of light ― those strange, fluid moods of metaphysical luminosity and manifold being-exposure."

'Unvavelling Pattern' strikes me as a palimpsest: a haunting manifesto of transcendence written on top of an ephemeral riddling script."
